“Cholitas” are Bolivian women with indigenous heritage known for their colorful attire, round top hats and ornate earrings. In the world’s highest capital city of La Paz, Bolivia, Cholitas are on a mission to overcome sexism and climb mountains in their traditional garb, stopping at nothing to attain the feeling of freedom that comes from scaling great heights.

    Director Biography - Mariono Carranza: Mariano Carranza is a producer for Great Big Story. He joined the staff in March 2016 after working as a producer for VICE Media from 2012 - 2016. He holds as BFA in Film + Television from NYU and resides in Brooklyn.
