A conversation about the history and growth of Chicano representation in theater and film.

Luis Valdez, renowned director, playwright, and screenwriter is well-known for his films "La Bamba" and "Zoot Suit”. He founded San Juan Bautista’s Obie-award-winning theater company, El Teatro Campesino (The Farm Workers’ Theater) which, like many of his works, celebrates farm workers, Chicano, and Indigenous culture in America. Luis has received countless awards, including the Presidential Medal of the Arts and Mexico’s prestigious Aguila Azteca Award. To these, we now proudly add the PJIFF Film Icon Award

Edward James Olmos, the Golden Globe, Tony, Emmy, and Academy Award® Nominated actor is known for many roles including El Pachuco in Luis Valdez’s “Zoot Suit”, Jaime Escalante in "Stand and Deliver”, and Admiral Adama in “Battlestar Galatica”. A producer and director as well, Olmos is also an international advocate, spokesman, and humanitarian, supporting many charitable organizations.
