Featuring a panel of successful indie filmmakers working on subjects ranging from Eighties' toy culture to Seventies’ avant-garde artists to a legendary major league sports talent scout, the Documentary Success panel will look at the current state of challenges and opportunities for filmmakers working in non-fiction.


J. Randall Lobb is a Canadian writer/director/producer, educator, and storyteller. Having been paid to write in every form of media (except tattoos), Lobb leverages his extensive knowledge of pop culture, IP exploitation and audience engagement on his own and through FauxPop Media and Definitive Film. His projects have included Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and The Crystal Calls - Making The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and the forthcoming Baywatch: An American Dream. 


Jimmy Velarde has forty years experience in the entertainment industry and has earned 26 Emmy nominations, 12 Emmy Awards, Grammy Nomination for his production work at CBS Television Network, and as President of Rampart Latino Records. His documentary work includes Con Safos-Reflections Of Life In The Barrio, Private Insanities, West Coast Eastside Sound The Eddie Davis Story. He is the Founder of Creative Teamwork Entertainment, Inc.


Hector Sandoval is President and Creative Director of Sandoval Media, where he creates documentary films, reality-based video segments, electronic news gathering, editorial photojournalism, and advertising graphic design. His documentaries include Kordavision, Sport of Kings, and Phil Stern Eyewitness.


David Ponce de Leon is a screenwriter, director, producer and editor based in Los Angeles. In 2019 he was tapped to write several original series pilot episodes by famed television producer Kenny Hull (“The Player”, “Love & Hip-Hop”) and is currently developing various Netflix optioned properties for Short Line Films, including (“The Falls”), (“Liberador”), and (“Sunset Limo”), which was also optioned by Life’s A Beach Entertainment (“Baywatch The Movie”) starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, produced by Paramount Pictures. He is the Founder of Millennium Crop Entertainment
