When the Solidarity movement was born in Poland, it overwhelmed Europe and then the whole world. What was the background of the collapse of the Berlin Wall? This unique story is told by the great artists of that time, well-known actors such as Krystyna Janda and Olgierd Łukasiewicz along with Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Wałęsa. We start with the personal story of the director, at the time an 18-year-old communist from Milan with Polish roots. In 1987-89 she got a scholarship to the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and had to cope with the reality Communism in Poland: the queues in shops, the lack of grocery products, and no access to media. She discovers an incredible, hidden world where the culture is in ferment and art becomes clandestine, a dominant aspect of that time and place.
