Indigenous artist Robert Davidson has become one of the foremost modern artists and cultural activists of this age. People from California to Alaska now have native art on their backs, in their homes, tattooed on their skins -- and non-indigenous citizens are flocking to political rallies led by native activists. That is the power of Davidson’s 14,000-year-old Haida culture, a culture that just might give the Western culture a much needed re-think. The nature shots and ceremonial clips tied together with the carving of totems made the whole process an art film, but also much more. A strong message in a gentle voice, this film offers an inexplicable sense of hope.
