Louise returns to New York City after attending university abroad. She is welcomed by her firecracker of a Jewish mother, and their relationship picks up right where it left off. When Louise reveals news of her engagement, old wounds are reopened. This is a thoughtful depiction of a mother-and-daughter relationship, with a nice payoff: the family secret.
