These short documentary films will screen with features during the Festival weekend Sept 21-24. We offer them to our virtual audience to be inspired and uplifted.

We live in a hectic and chaotic world that relentlessly stresses our planet, humans and animals alike. This unique audio-visual exploration finds joy in all the turmoil that surrounds us. Using videos, timelapses, hyperlapses, drone shots, slow motion, astrophotography and satellite images from around the world with dramatic sound design, we are asked “what is the speed of happiness?”

The Shipibo people of the Peruvian Amazon have lived in relationship with the rainforest for millennia. In recent years, loggers, colonizing settlers, and palm plantations have increasingly devoured these Indigenous lands, pushing the forest farther from villages. In this film, a young woman from Santa Isabel de Bahuanisho, makes her first journey to the retreating edge of this ancestral forest, which once stretched to her village.

The Forest Beyond

A poignant story of two Holocaust survivors who became close friends while in a concentration camp and were miraculously reunited after 80 years. Now in their late 90s, they are spending what precious time they have left rekindling their friendship and teaching others about the dangers of hatred.

When a devoted Kenyan husband surprises his new Black-American wife with an adorable kitten, neither are prepared for the destruction it wields upon their home, their life, and ultimately, their marriage.
