This is a collection of six Documentary Short films. Included at the end, is a conversation between film lover, Janette Force and HONOR THY MOTHER Director, Lucy Ostrander.

After waiting 15 years for housing assistance, a young family moves into their first stable home. This film is a letter to the children, recasting their homeless experiences as an extended camping trip – all of it: living in the car, sleeping in parks, showering at the beach, dressing for school in gas station bathrooms. Intimately filmed, this story expresses the parents’ deep belief that one can create a home even when there is no house.

This is the tale of the mothers who organize and journey together by bus through Mexico to retrace the last known steps of their missing children. Their story offers a perspective from an another side of the immigration crisis.

Jay Jay Patton was only 13 when she designed and built an app to help kids connect with their incarcerated parents. Now she is creating a coding academy to help other kids do the same.

Generation Impact: The Coder

After spending his weekends teaching his grandma self-defense, Jeff begins teaching karate classes at a local nursing home, giving the most vulnerable citizens a sense of power and independence. In this short, Jeff and Valerie show us that there’s no age too young to help – or too old to kick butt.

This quirky, animated documentary is about gender and parenting, as seen through the eyes of children speaking straight from the heart – as only kids can do.

Mama Has a Mustache

HONOR THY MOTHER is the untold story of Aboriginal women from Canada, Washington, and Alaska who migrated to Bainbridge Island in the early 1940s. They came to pick berries for Japanese American farmers. Many fell in love in the fields, married Filipino immigrants, and settled on the island to raise their children. The voices of these children, now elders, tell of their experiences in a post-World War II racist environment.
