Set in contemporary Baltimore, teenage girl Rhyan, her younger sister Miles, and her best friend Imani are stuck inside their great-grandmother Marilyn’s home. Bored, the kids search for something to do. That’s when Miles finds an old, worn photo album buried in a cabinet. The kids flip to a photo of Marilyn in her youth, and the audience is pulled into the photo, observing a vivid memory, a flashback that takes them decade by decade through this family’s past. In the 1950s, they witness Eddie and Marilyn's love story, built on faith and hope in a world that tried to divide them. In the 1970s, a young Black queer man, Richard, challenges the ideas of Black Panther Eddie Jr., forming a bond through the pride they both experience. In the 1990s, the rhythm of hip-hop and R&B takes hold. Monica and Nic meet amidst an environment of joy, music, and movement, showing a new era of expression. Finally, in the 2020s, Rhyan and Imani continue the legacy of black love, learning from the past and embracing change.
