Experiments in Conversations is a collection of innovative short films that create bridges across family members, animal species, time, and artistic forms.
The program includes: A Concerto is a Conversation, Love, Dad, International Dawn Chorus Day, Don't Forget the Water, The Perfect Picture.
On International Dawn Chorus Day (May 3, 2020), birds from six continents join a zoom call. They gossip about storms and cats and wires and dates. They talk about Egyptian filmmaker Shady Habash, known for his satiric anti-dictator music videos, who died the day before in Cairo's notorious Tora prison. They wonder about Egyptian queer activist Sarah Hegazi, famously incarcerated for flying a rainbow flag at a Cairo concert, now living as a refugee in Toronto. They don't realize that a month later, unable to bear the pain of her prison trauma, Sarah will take her own life.
Berlinale - Teddy Award for Best Short Film

Canadian Images in Conversation is an ad-hoc artist collective that showcases artistic excellence in Canadian moving image culture through screenings, exhibitions, performances and artist talks. While emphasizing Canadian works and focusing on the Canadian perspective, our goal is to expand and disseminate critical discourse specific to Canadian culture. Thus, conversation and artist talks are at the heart of our events. We change in response to the needs of artists and work to engage and inform the public about their work.

In the English M.A. (Public Texts) at Trent University, we explore what it means to “go public” – to “publish” – and how that act resonates for writers, cultures, and publics. Our students will develop new ways of looking at the production and circulation of texts, and at the history and future of texts and publics, exploring emerging issues that are central to research today.
