The Art of Listening: Health, Community, Disparity is a shorts program; multiple films are part of this screening. The collective film program runs 70 minutes, followed by a special Q&A, and a livestream panel available as of Sunday, January 29th at 2 p.m.

Q&A with Natasha Luckhardt (producer) and Tiana Fernandes (film participant)

Natasha Luckhardt is a labour advocate, filmmaker and writer. A family friend told her that former General Electric workers in Peterborough, Ontario were “dropping like flies” from cancer and after writing a Master’s thesis on the issue, she thought, these workers need to be seen. Natasha started a crowdfunding initiative, teamed up with Peterborough local Rob Viscardis, and filmed in the community for three years. The film, Town of Widows, aired on CBC Docs and had its world premiere at the ReFrame Film Festival. Now the Director of Health, Safety and Environment at the Ontario Federation of Labour, Natasha takes an intersectional approach to health and safety and strongly believes in the power of workers telling their stories. You can see that power in the film Fault Lines, premiering at the ReFrame Festival this year.

Tiana Fernandes Is a grade 8 student from MAZO de la Roche public school. When not volunteering in her community she spends her time fighting for equality and justice by being a member of Model UN and other politically and socially involved clubs. One day aspiring to go to Yale and be Prime Minister of Canada, Tiana’s main goal is to show the previous generations that this one is more than social media, will lead the world to brighter future and most of all showcasing that this generation is a force to be reckoned with because we are growing up resilient.
