Join us for Romanian Jewish History and Collective Memory in Romanian Film, a Zoom discussion between director Oana Giurgiu (Occasional Spies) and historians Cristina A. Bejan and Adrian Cioflâncă. The Q&A, which took place Nov. 17 at 9am PT, is available on ARCS YouTube and on their ARCS Facebook page.

In this documentary essay, Radu Jude juxtaposes Romania’s fascist past via the experience of Legionnares and the country’s increased anti-Semitism during WWII. Using excerpts of Jewish doctor Emil Dorian’s diary written during the war, The Dead Nation highlights the Jewish experience of the war and their portrayal in the political propaganda of the war’s perpetrators.
