I was born in 1973 in Maribor, Slovenia. After graduating from the Technical High School in Maribor, in 1996 I attended a semester of film directing at the private educational institution New York Film Academy . There I made a short feature film , The Beginning , with which I passed the entrance exam at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana (AGRFT). In 2002, I graduated with a degree in film and television directing, and in 2010 I did my master's degree.
I am a full-time professor at AGRFT and a director of feature and documentary films and television shows. I signed more than 700 TV shows. In 2007, I directed my first feature film , Rooster 's Breakfast. With 183,000 viewers, it is one of the most watched Slovenian films. At the Slovenian Film Festival, Rooster's Breakfast won the Award for Direction, Screenplay and the Audience Award. The film was regularly distributed in Bosnia and Serbia, and was also shown at the Film Festival in Zagreb. In addition, film was also a Slovenian candidate for an Oscar. During the tour of American cinemas, it was also spotted in Los Angeles, where it won the Critics Award for Best Film at the 44th Annual South East European Film Festival ( Cinema Without Borders ).
In 2012, I shot my second feature film , Shanghai . A saga about a Roma family, based on the novel Feri Lainšček The Untouchables premiered in Canada at the Montreal Film Festival, where it won the Award for Best Screenplay. The film was also a great success in Slovenian cinematographic distribution, and with 48,000 viewers, it ranks among the successful Slovenian films. In 2013, the film won the Best Film Award at the Eastern European Film Festival in Paris.
In 2014, I made my third feature film The forests are still green ( Die Wälder synd Noch green ). The film is an independent Slovenian-Austrian co-production, it was shot in German with an international cast, and is the result of cooperation between the Slovenian production company Perfo and the Austrian partner Artdeluxe . The film had its international premiere at the 17th Shanghai Film Festival, where, among 1099 films from 102 countries, only 15 were selected in the official competition program. The film was also in regular cinema distribution in Austria.
In 2017, my fourth feature film, the Slovenian-Macedonian co-production Slovenia, Australia, and tomorrow the whole world , had its international premiere at the Cinedays festival in Skopje. In Slovenia, it was presented as part of the 28th Ljubljana International Film Festival Liffe in Ljubljana.
