THE FLAGMAKERS is a film about the unexpected people who make the American flag and invites us to ask the question: who is America and who is the American flag for?

The small community of Oak Creek, Wisconsin is home to Eder Flag, the largest American flag and flagpole manufacturer in the nation. More than 100 years old, Eder Flag is a visual anthem to our country’s diversity. Employees from Afghanistan, Burma, Morocco, Nigeria, Mongolia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Serbia, Albania, Cuba, Pakistan, and Iraq stitch, fold and prepare to ship more than five million flags annually. The employees are largely immigrants and refugees.

The factory is a highly visual location in which the main characters work together side by side, stitching each flag as a team. The film will follow specific flags as they are shipped across the country and into the communities and events of America - painting a unique picture of the United States in the months leading to the 2020 presidential election and beyond.
