At a time when our identities are being aggressively erased and our voices are being silenced, this program features two stories of individual who chose to stand up and let their truth shine. After neo-Nazis storm her Drag Story Hour, Akita, a drag queen suddenly thrust into the spotlight, struggles with the aftermath of viral notoriety. Confined to her apartment, she faces an onslaught of media requests and escalating threats that force her to relive the attack. As journalists and politicians reshape her into a cultural symbol, she feels her identity flatten into a headline. Through intimate interviews and flashbacks, the film explores the psychological toll of being made hyper-visible in a moment of national panic, and asks what survival looks like when trauma becomes public property.

THE ROAD TO SYDNEY follows Philippine dance master and choreographer Sydney Loyola, who found refuge in dance after a childhood of bullying in her island hometown of Palawan. Now based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sydney faces the painful realities of job loss and eviction following her gender transition and affirmation. Through courage and artistry, she embarks on a journey of healing, identity, and reconciliation with her estranged father.

The 14th annual Seattle Asian American Film Festival is continuing our hybrid model this year at the Wing Luke Museum and Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute from May 29-31, 2026. Online programming will be available from June 1-7, 2026. All films are only available to viewers within the United States, while some films are geo-blocked to Washington State only. Select films will not be available online. Please check each film program for viewing windows and geographic restrictions.
