During the Covid-19 lockdown Jeanette Niyidufasha started making Covid-19 protective masks from home, with the support of her husband after her usual business trading closed due to lockdown, and donating extra masks to the unemployed out in the street. Her anxiety around the virus and mask wearing is increased as her daughter heads back to school during the pandemic

David, a Congolese national who has been living in South Africa for 17 years, is detained at Lindela Repatriation Centre during Level 5 of the national lock down. During his time as a deportee, he manages to get hold of an illegal cellphone. He uses the cellphone to leak cellphone footage to his older brother, Omar. The footage exposes the Human Rights violations happening at Lindela. It also shows that there are not enough measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Although David is detained for the maximum period of 120 days, the authorities inform him that he will be detained indefinitely because of the ongoing national lock down. Frustrated, David and a group of fellow deportees organize a protest march. Unfortunately, David is not prepared for the repercussions. Lindela under Lockdown

During level 5 of the national lockdown a Congolese man is detained at Lindela, the largest facility for the holding of undocumented migrants in South Africa. In an effort to expose the gross human rights violations that he is subjected to, and the lack of safety regulations around Covid-19, he leaks cell phone video footage to his older brother on the outside.

Compassionate in how it captures its subjects and evocative in its editing, Lefu – The Funeral deals with one of the many devastating realities of the coronavirus pandemic. This film is a profound dedication to families who have suffered the loss of loved ones due to COVID-19. Dealing with the untimely death of his mother, Mpho Molutsi reflects on his inability to follow ceremonial burial practices to bury her because of the pandemic. We witness its disruptive nature in the way these practices have changed to comply with COVID-19 funeral guidelines. His story resonates with many South Africans who have had grief touch their lives directly during these times. Lefu - The Funeral

When Mpho Molotsi loses his mother to Covid-19, he is devastated to lose not only his closest relative, but also a confidant. The film is a portrait of final goodbyes, and follows Mpho and his family as they make final rites amidst the regulatory restrictions for burials during Covid-19.
