Miriam is a South African born Jew raising her seventeen year old daughter Eliza. Nelson Mandela's upcoming election triggers a manic episode in the bipolar Miriam, who has spent years fighting apartheid. 


Fuelled by the introduction of Mike, Eliza's Black boyfriend, Miriam's mania escalates as she navigates politics, religion, the mental health care system, and parenting.
