Not only did she open my eyes to the taboo world of adoption dating back to the 50s but also how important race was a factor when adopting a child. My desire to explore this issue began once Verda told me her story and how she felt she’s been living her entire life as a black woman. There are many African Americans today who don’t know their biological parents due to unseen circumstances. To not only discover your roots but to find out that you are not who you say you are had to be mind-blowing.
