“True Stories: Journalists, Journalism & the Fight for Media Freedom”
Welcome to True Stories, a film and documentary series dedicated to the people who risk their lives, reputations, and freedoms to report the facts—and to the urgent fight for media freedom in a world where truth is under siege.
This series shines a light on journalism at its most raw and essential: in war zones, under authoritarian regimes, in the face of corporate influence and state-sponsored censorship. From independent media collectives on the margins to investigative reporters confronting power at its centre, these films reveal what it means to speak truth in an age of distortion.
In Gaza, over 190 journalists and media workers have been killed—the deadliest war for journalists in modern history. They are being deliberately targeted for showing the world what some do not want seen. Meanwhile, in the West, media is increasingly constrained not just by government pressure but by corporate ownership, platform censorship, and the quiet marginalization of dissenting voices. The “free press” is not as free as it claims.
But there are cracks in the narrative. Independent journalists and platforms are stepping forward to tell the stories others won’t. They bring in voices from across the globe, offering perspectives that challenge mainstream media hegemony and expose what’s too often left out.
Feature films will be rotated with documentaries. Each documentary screening in this series will be followed by a live discussion featuring expert speakers: journalists, editors, activists, academics, and media critics. These conversations are a chance to go deeper—into the ethics, the risks, and the possibilities of journalism today—and to hear from those doing the work in real time.
We invite you not only to watch and listen, but to question, challenge, and engage. Because journalism is not just about delivering truth—it’s about demanding it.

“I Stand With Palestinian Journalists”
Robert Greenwald’s latest film offers an unflinching look at the targeted killing of Palestinian journalists in Gaza. Through the lives of Belal Jadallah, Heba Al-Abadla, and Ismail al-Ghoul, Gaza: Journalism Under Fire exposes Israel’s systematic assault on press freedom and devastating human toll on those committed to telling the truth under occupation and siege.
