Katarzyna and Flavia present solo and duo repertoire for flute and harpsichord including the partita for flute - the only purely solo piece for flute by J.S. Bach and the a major sonata for flute and obligato harpsichord.



Flavia Hirte is an Anglo-German flute player and teacher, who has specialised in historical performance practice and the development of the flute of the last 400 years. She completed her education at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal College of Music, as well as in Amsterdam, studying historical flutes with Katy Bircher, Lisa Beznosiuk, Rachel Brown and Marten Root. Performances have taken her across Europe with groups including: The Hanover Band; Gabrieli Consort & Players (UK); EUBO's Kabinet (Amsterdam); Kölner Akademie (Germany); Musica Saeculorum (Italy) and Orchestre Philharmonic de Luxembourg. In 2018 Flavia was a resident musician at the Handel House in London, which she combined with research into lesser known English flute repertoire of the 18th century. Flavia is a founding member of Ensemble Molière, who has been selected as the first-ever Radio 3 New Generation Baroque Ensemble for two years from October 2021. Katarzyna Kowalik is a London based harpsichordist performing actively as a soloist and with many period ensembles in UK and across Europe. After graduating from Frederic Chopin University in Warsaw (Masters in Piano and Harpsichord Performance) she completed her Master Degree in Historical Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Carole Cerasi, James Johnstone and Nicholas Parle, obtaining The City of London Corporation Award and Guildhall School Trust Award. She was also awarded Guildhall Artist Fellowship twice. Katarzyna mastered her skills in the Piccola Accademia di Montisi studying with Christophe Rousset and Skip Sempé, as well as in the Académie Musicale Villecroze with Ilton Wjuniski. In 2015 Katarzyna was a participant of the Handel House Talent scheme. She also won a Basso Continuo Prize at the ‘Gianni Gambi’ Competition in Pesaro. Katarzyna’s CDs include ‘Forgotten Vienna’ with The Amadè Players (Resonus Classics 2015), ‘French Collection’ solo harpsichord CD (2018). She is about to release her second solo album with harpsichord works by Stephen Dodgson and Elizabeth Maconchy with Prima Facie Records. She has also recorded for BBC Radio 1.
