"Coincidence is God’s way of remaining anonymous.” —Albert Einstein

When We Were Bullies begins with a mind boggling coincidence 25 years ago, which ultimately leads filmmaker Jay Rosenblatt to track down his fifth grade class (and their teacher) to see what they remember of a bullying incident from 50 years ago. In a playful yet poignant way, he begins to understand his complicity in the incident and reflects on the pervasiveness of bullying in American culture.
