As part of the Underwriter Preview film, Determined: The Story of Holocaust Survivor Avraham Perlmutter, there will be a live virtual discussion between the film's director, Keren Perlmutter, the film's composer, Steven Chesne and Lawrence Baron, Professor Emeritus of Modern Jewish History, SDSU, on Wednesday, February 10 at 7:00 pm PST.


After the completion of the discussion, the recorded conversation can be viewed on demand until February 21 at 9:00 pm.


Keren Perlmutter, Director

Keren, who is Avraham's daughter, is an award-winning scientist, publisher, and public speaker. She obtained her B.S.in Electrical Engineering from UCLA and her M.S. in Electrical Engineering, M.S. in Statistics, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, all from Stanford University. She was chief scientist and head of an international research and development division at AOL. She also developed technology for Warner Bros. Studios, including the revolutionary “Ultra-Resolution” film restoration process. Keren is a published author of a number of technical papers and has won numerous academic awards. She has also been granted 39 patents for her inventions. More recently, she published her father’s bestselling autobiography in English and in Dutch. She continues to share her father’s life story by speaking at museums, schools, and other venues.


Steven Chesne, Composer  

For over 35 years, composer Steven Chesne has been creating music for the media and the concert hall. He has composed the scores for over 300 episodes of prime-time network shows and he also scored 17 theatrical art-house films.


Lawrence Baron, Professor Emeritus of Modern Jewish History

Professor Emeritus Lawrence Baron held the Nasatir Chair of Modern Jewish History at San Diego State University from 1988 until 2012 and directed its Jewish Studies Program until 2006. He has authored and edited four books including The Modern Jewish Experience in World Cinema (Brandeis University Press: 2011) and Projecting the Holocaust into the Present: The Changing Focus of Contemporary Holocaust Cinema (Rowman and Littlefield: 2005). He served as an interviewer and historian for Sam and Pearl Oliner’s The Altruistic Personality: Rescuers of Jews in Nazi Europe (The Free Press; 1988).
