A Who’s Who of Jewish and Civil Rights leaders are interviewed in this film chronicling the close connections between Jews and African-Americans from the 1909 founding of the NAACP through the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Special moments in the film: In Selma, Alabama, young black men wore skull caps as “freedom caps” because of their close ties with the Jewish community; Civil Rights leaders visited Auschwitz with Elie Wiesel and others. Some famous names in the film: John Lewis, Harry Belafonte, Andrew Young, Martin Luther King, Jr., David Saperstein, Peter Yarrow, and Rabbis Abraham Heschel and Si Dresner. Shari is the president and founder of Spill The Honey, a Michigan-based 501(c)(3) organization committed to promoting human dignity as well as advancing public knowledge of the Holocaust and the Civil Rights Movement. Through programs, sponsored initiatives, and strategic partnerships, Spill the Honey advances cultural tolerance, draws attention to contemporary injustices, and encourages young people to become compassionate, global citizens. Clarence B. JonesClarence B. Jones is the former personal counsel, advisor, draft speech writer and close friend of Martin Luther King Jr. He is a Scholar in Residence at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Institute at Stanford University. He is the author of What Would Martin Say? and Behind the Dream: The Making of the Speech that Transformed a Nation.
