Late at night in a small Turkish town, a young couple tries to find a hotel room to spend the night together. They are rejected at all hotels for not having a marriage certificate. When they believe they’ve found a trick as a way in, the situation gets out of hand.​ <img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/52cbd92f03eaf8b7d24aacb0aff2bde7.png"> Director's Bio: Serhat Karaaslan, from Kurdistan (Turkey), has directed one feature film and several shorts. His short films were screened and awarded at major festivals like Toronto and Locarno International Film Festival. His debut film Passed by Censor (Cannes Cinéfondation Residence), premiered at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2019 where it received the Critics Award, and was shown at festivals around the world garnering additional awards. The Criminals is his latest work.&nbsp;

THE CRIMINALS

A group of young people with disabilities are gathered to experience acting on the theater stage. They decide to put on a theatrical performance of improvised scenes with each of them playing their favorite superhero. At the same time we are getting to know the young antiheroes through daily scenes of their lives.&nbsp; <img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/1a87defc5d8fe5cac39012a92e17c52e.png"> Director's Bio: Yannis Bletas was born and raised in Kozani, Greece. He is living in Rethymo. He studied Greek Literature at the Department of Philology / University of Crete, as well as Acting at the Greek Art Theatre "Karolos Koun" (Theatro Technis). He attended directing workshops at London Film School. Along with his studies and the creative process of acting and playwriting, he soon began getting involved with the film industry. In 2016 his first short fiction film, under the title ‘The Umbrella’, was screened online. The following year he wrote and directed the films 'To Taxidi / The Journey' (3 awards), 'Valsamo' and 'Ta Gemista / Salted’, which has already been honored with 9 awards in Greece and abroad: among others, "Young Directors" Prize / Athens International Digital Film Festival 2018.&nbsp;In 2018, he completed another two short movies, 'Armatoloi' and 'Tama' which have already been honored with 5 awards. He has also directed music video clips and several commercials. In early 2019 he created his own production company called “Ble productions”. In 2019 his short film “Strophes”was screened online, and gone viral in Greece. In 2020 he finished his first feature documentary film called “Rigors” and another short movie called “Voutia”. The feature documentary “Rigors” premiered at Andromeda Film Festival in Istanbul and was selected at the BCT- Festival Cinema and Tv in Benevento of Italy. At the end of 2020, he completed a short documentary “How to train an antihero”, in cooperation with the Association Friends and Guardians with Autism in Rethymno and the support of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Region of Crete and was premiered in September of 2021 at Drama International Film Festival, in Greece.

Maybe if she loses her virginity, she will finally find her place? <img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/37ccabf809bb59e0b32dec4d6a648a7d.png"> Director's Bio: Marija Apcevska holds BA in Directing from FDA, Skopje and MA in Film and Media Production, NYFA, Los Angeles. Her shorts have traveled to festivals worldwide and won several awards, with Bardo premiering at Berlinale Generation. She is also the creator of the children’s TV series Zoki Poki, the only TV series from North Macedonia shown in Scandinavia. North Pole premiered at the Festival de Cannes in the Official Short Film Selection, and was one of the winning projects at the European Short Pitch in 2019.&nbsp;She is currently working on her first feature, Spring Cleaning, selected for development at LIM 2021 and presented at Cannes Focus CoPro’ 2021.

NORTH POLE

Serbian pensioners Marija and Toma found each other in their 60s but are as smitten as teenagers, so much so that they invented a 15-month anniversary to be able to celebrate their love with their friends. The party takes place on the monument that Toma built to commemorate a great personal loss, drawing on the funds he acquired through years of working abroad. On this special day, the happy couple talk us through the lives and loves that led them here. The film is part of a series exploring aesthetics, architecture and identity among Gastarbeiters (migrant workers) throughout the Balkans. <img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/d13266786bfa2d9d42186c3d645a7c8e.png"> <img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/13a8538d38efdbd233bfd749e3037750.png"> <img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/a4b8fdb416ab46a414a2ece643604c0a.png"> Director's Bio: Eluned Zoe Aiano is a filmmaker, editor and translator with a background in Visual Anthropology whose work is generally centred on Central/Eastern Europe. Her most recent short, All Her Dying Lovers, an animated documentary made in collaboration with Anna Benner, premiered at Hot Docs and has been published on the New York Times Op Docs section. She was selected for the Wapping Artist Residency in Berlin, 2020, and the Pépinières Européennes de Création residency in Quebec, 2021. She is currently working on her first feature documentary in Serbia. She also writes about film and is a regular contributor to the East European Film Bulletin. Greta Rauleac (Wild Pear Arts) is a Romanian multimedia producer specialized in Visual Anthropology. She has worked with various documentary production companies in Italy (such as GA&amp;A Productions and DocLab in Rome) and, parallel to her documentary film work, she is a researcher interested in resistance practices, popular culture and urban issues. She writes for the online magazine “The Cooperative City” and she is enrolled as a PhD student in Sociology and Social Anthropology at Central European University where she proposes a visual-based study on diaspora identity and representation in pop music. Alesandra Tatić is a visual anthropologist based between France and Spain. Combining academic research and photography have led her to a series of short and one feature documentary projects. Through her fieldwork (mainly ex-Yugoslavia, Spain, and France) she is generally searching for innovative ways of expressing anthropological findings through digital visuals and giving a voice to women in migration. Alesandra is currently a social science PhD candidate at EHESS.

MARIJA + TOMA

On the Mediterranean island of Crete, Maria heads to the cemetery every Friday to tend to her beloved husband's grave. When the bus that picks her up breaks down, she will be forced to spend the night among the tombstones. <img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/9968a8ab7bc7c9289ba54d5dc8c00a41.png"> Director's Bio: Stelios Polychronakis has worked in the UK and Greece as a production designer and art director. He has also directed award-winning animation short films The Village (To Horio) and I Do Art.
