Evie is the story of a 19-year-old girl trying to navigate between two different cultures and perceptions of the world, that of her Armenian family and that of her French entourage, with whom she has been in daily contact for years. Evie's life is officially perfect: she has a family, a boyfriend, and friends who love her. But there's always the feeling of being torn between two cultures and losing oneself, which causes her inner conflict. Throughout the film, she questions her identity and tries to reconcile the two visions.
Arpiné Stepanyan was born on March 11, 2000, in Yerevan, Armenia, where she spent the early years of her childhood. Her life took a transformative turn when her family moved several times, first to the United States and later to France, where they finally settled in 2014. These constant upheavals were challenging for a young girl trying to find her footing in the world, but they also shaped her into the resilient and creative individual she is today. In search of stability amidst the chaos, Arpiné found solace in the arts. She immersed herself in music, drawing, writing, and eventually, filmmaking. What began as a personal escape soon blossomed into a deep passion and a way for her to make sense of the world around her. Initially self-taught, Arpiné’s dedication to her craft led her to pursue formal education in the arts. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Performing Arts from the University of Lille, where she honed her skills and broadened her artistic horizons. Eager to further develop her filmmaking abilities, she continued her studies with a Master’s degree in Filmmaking at Paris 8 University from 2022 to 2024. It was during her time in Paris that Arpiné directed her first professional short film, "Evie." This project, born out of her academic journey, showcased her unique storytelling voice and marked the beginning of what promises to be a compelling career in cinema. Through "Evie," Arpiné explores themes of identity, displacement, and the search for belonging, all of which resonate deeply with her own experiences.
