In order to escape her overprotective drug-dealing stepfather, a young introvert flees to NYC with her pet pocket squirrel. After successfully reinventing herself, she realizes she must confront her dark past, to truly be free. BOUND’s innovative structure sets it apart from most indie films. The first half is a social drama focused on Bella’s escape, survival, and building a new life from scratch. At the midpoint it flips to a domestic thriller when Bella returns home to save the mother that betrayed her. The result is a surprising tonal shift that works by being rooted in the domestic situation Bella escaped from.
