While his father is in prison and brother a fugitive from the Israeli army, Yussef, a 12-year-old Palestinian, is a child of the intifada who lives in his imaginary world, often escaping from the refugee camps to the Gaza countryside. One day, as he is bird- hunting, he falls in love with Aida, a young gypsy girl. In order to marry her, Yussef must first find the three jewels missing from a family necklace. His quest is woven into the daily lives of the people of Gaza, as his pursuit for the jewels becomes a metaphor for life and its meaning.

يعيش يوسف أحد فتيان الانتفاضة، والذي يبلغ من العمر 12 سنة في عالمه الخيالي، فبينما يقبع والده  في السجن وأخوه هارباً من الجيش الإسرائيلي، يعتاد الهروب من مخيمات اللاجئين إلى أطراف غزة. وفي أحد الأيام، وأثناء اصطياد العصافير، يقع في غرام فتاة غجرية اسمها عايدة، والتي تشترط عليه في سبيل الزواج منها، العثور أولاً على الجواهر الثلاث المفقودة من قلادة عائلية. تتقاطع جهوده في البحث مع الحياة اليومية لسكان غزة، فيصبح سعيه لإيجاد الجواهر صورة مجازية عن الحياة ومعناها.
