Anne Carson's translation of Euripides' Bacchae is reformulated from within a bizarre newsroom world where everyone is queer, trans, and about to join a cult. But what kind of cult is it? TV News Reporters Clark Bribe (Cliff Hengst) and Mark Tancaster (Danny Thanh Nguyen) believe it's a cult ritualized through Gender Reveal Parties and their tragic aftermaths. But cult expert and raging dyke Dottie Reed (Annie Danger) soon reveals that the GRC cult is much more than straight people obsessing over basic color palettes. In an experimental mash-up of dance, theater, and puppetry, Before Bacchae Before complicates binarized logics of reveal in favor of wilder, deeper becomings.
