Willem is a young trans filmmaker who is committed to telling queer stories on screen. He is a writer, director and editor and has recently graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media Studies. Willem’s debut short film NEST, which he wrote, directed and co-edited explores his experience coming to terms with his transness using the body-horror genre. To honour his kaupapa of authentic storytelling, NEST’s production was also used as an opportunity to up-skill other young trans filmmakers. He has recently completed HYDRA, a short documentary he directed about Pōneke drag queen and sex work activist, Vixen Temple.
