ABOUT THE FILM

Inocente is a personal and vibrant coming of age story about a young artist's determination never to surrender to the bleakness of her surroundings. At 15, Inocente refuses to let her dream of becoming an artist be thwarted because of the challenges facing her as an undocumented immigrant experiencing homelessness. Color is her personal revolution and its sweep on her canvases creates a world that looks nothing like her own dark past. Inocente is both a timeless story about the transformative power of art and a timely snapshot of the new face of homelessness in America: children. The obstacles are staggering, but the hope in her story proves her circumstances do not define her -- her dreams do.

The live panel conversation, led by Gigi Loh, Vice President of the FPE Board of Directors, begins at 7:45pmET after you've viewed the documentary, and will feature

  • Inocente Izucar, the star of the film, herself!;
  • Taiisa Kelly, CEO of Monarch Housing, an expert on the current state of homelessness in New Jersey;
  • Rabbi David Greenstein of Congregation Shomrei Emunah in Montclair, which has hosted FPE clients for 11  years: and
  • a special appearance from one of the families that has participated in the FPE program.
