CW: religious commentary, prejudice, intolerance Diane Whalen has been a spiritual leader in the Roman Catholic Church her whole life. By the time she was in her twenties, she was clear that she was called to be a priest, but only men can be ordained in the Catholic Church. In The Forbidden Call, Diane reflects on her difficult decision to leave her lifelong faith community to become a priest in a renewed vision of the Church, one that the Pope doesn't recognize. The short documentary is a poignant reminder that change in the Catholic Church is long overdue, but Diane's ministry is one step in the right direction.

The Forbidden Call

A woman follows a calling only men can answer, to be a priest in the Catholic Church. With stark opposition from the Vatican, Diane Whalen risks losing the only faith community she has ever known.

17-year-old Sahar is determined to watch her favorite soccer team play for the league championship. Barred from attending sports events as a woman, Sahar disguises herself as a boy with the help of her friends. Things take a tragic turn when Sahar’s disguise is uncovered.

The Recess

Inspired by true events, "The Recess" explores gender oppression in Iranian society.

Our mother, a colleague, a sister, an uncle, a friend, a friend of a friend, a stranger, who they are doesn’t really matter. What brings them together is that they have suffered this trauma, what they share is an aggression, a hidden history of which they carry the silence. But must importantly, they have decided to live and no longer survive in the shame of their sexual assault. Their testimonies are told to us by different faces, expressed by gestures coming from other people so that we remember the most important thing: their story and their strength, their wish to break a taboo because it is time for shame to change sides.

Voices rise, mingle, echo. It is time to come out of the silence, to bear the weight of it. It is now time for us to listen to them live and no longer survive in the shame of their sexual assault.

As a collection of stories – all verbatim – from waiting rooms, gynecology chairs, abortion clinics, and bedrooms, the documentary bears witness to everyday acts of patriarchy and systemic violence. Adopting a poetic visual language, MATKA / POLKA breaks the taboo around the experiences, emotions and identity of Polish women who have faced the country's strict reproductive policy and social prejudices to make decisions about their own life and body.

CW: descriptions of abortion Abortion: Add to Cart is a documentary exploring self-managed abortion with mifepristone and misoprostol and the emergence of telehealth. This short documentary explores the marketplace circumventing regulations to provide abortion pills over the internet. We will follow two storytellers, Alice and Ari through their self-managed abortion experiences. Alice self-managed her abortion through Aid Access, a Dutch organization. Conversely, Ari, a trans-masculine non-binary storyteller, recalls a self-managed abortion experience before these resources were available. We speak with various organizations such as Plan C and If/When/How who support those looking to self-manage. Doctors weigh in on the abortion pill and FDA regulations that prevent it from becoming widely available. Lastly, we investigate the emergence of telehealth, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, and what the future of abortion looks like.
