After arriving at a Cape Town police station to report a crime, Mzu finds an elderly man been overlooked while waiting at the back of the queue.

The station is busy and the old man is confused with no one to assist him. Mzu then takes it upon himself to see that the old man is helped but quickly finds resistance from those ahead in line and stifling the bureaucratic system. The Wait is an allegory of South Africa’s complex society, where a sense powerlessness and hope exist together at all times.
