Based on a poem by Education without Borders' (EwB) co-founder, Cecil Hershler, this short film was proudly produced by EwB. Through the medium of dance, the film tells the story of a young girl in a South African township.

13-year-old Onitha's world is shattered after she experiences sexual violence by a trusted family member. Fearing shame and rejection, she turns to her teacher for help, relying on him as her protector. He shrinks from the responsibility and chooses not to intervene.

As time passes, guilt consumes him, manifesting as a tormenting figure representing the shame of inaction and silence. “Shame” becomes his constant companion.

This film delves into Onitha’s trauma, revealing her isolation in a community that failed to protect her. As the characters confront their own burdens, they recognize that shame is a universal experience, confirming the collective responsibility that we all share when we look away.

The narrative highlights the importance of community networks, the role of educators in providing support and breaking the cycle of silence surrounding gender-based violence.
