This award winning duo share the same motivation in using their filmmaking skills to craft a piece that challenges the audience to reflect on how some forms of natural child behaviours have been medicalized, to question the influence that the pharmaceutical industry has in the uptake in diagnosis of ADHD in young children, and to examine how the education system and its policies “teach” these young children.
In Joanna and Patrícia’s own words, “Three Comma Fourteen is a film about the relationship between society and being a child today.” The film is full of rich symbolism, with layers of filmic language and a theme that is deeply rooted in asking the question, “What right does a child have?”.

Joana Nogueira is a ceramist, sculptress, director of animated films, and artistic director. She graduated in Fine Arts, completed a Masters in Illustration and Animation and postgraduate in Local and Collaborative Development. She dedicates herself to materializing the characters from her imagination signed as ‘Não Sou Rita’, teaching different audiences in her ceramics studio - Terra Boa - and developing artistic projects with different communities, in partnership with institutions such as Associação Unificar, Theatro Circo, Braga Media Arts and Theater and Puppetry of Mandrágora.
She co-directed the short film Pronto, era assim (2016), episode 7 - Ornitorrincos (Platypuses) of the series Crias (2018) and the short film Três Vírgula Catorze (2024) with Patrícia Rodrigues.
She worked on stop-motion animation films and projects such as O Casaco Rosa by Mónica Santos and Roupa Velha by Alice Eça Guimarães.
Patrícia Rodrigues

Driven by the desire to bring life to her imagination, Patrícia Rodrigues is motivated by the tactility that the stop-motion technique provides. Since 2014, she has worked in stop-motion animation, as a director, animator, designer and builder of sets, props and puppets.
She co-directed the short film Pronto, era assim (2015), produced at Academia RTP, with Joana Nogueira. Episode no. 7: ‘Ornitorrincos’ (Platypus), from the TV series Crias (2020), produced by Praça Filmes and JPL Films.
And more recently, the short film Três Vírgula Catorze (2024), produced by Animais AVPL. She is currently a teacher in the Professional 2D and 3D Animation Course, at Escola Artística Soares dos Reis (Porto).

Ling Chiu

Ling has written, directed, and produced a number of award-winning short dramatic and experimental films and videos, as well as a documentary with the National Film Board of Canada. She believes strongly in the power of films and its place to help enact social change.
Ling has spent many years as a festival previewer for the Vancouver International Film Festival for both the International and Canadian selection committees and also for the SPARK ANIMATION Festival in Vancouver. She has also served as a Producer for the SPARK ANIMATION Festival 2024 - Animation For Change Program.
Currently, she is working as a specialist teacher for students with extreme complex cognitive and physical challenges where she developed a media arts program and employed her filmmaking skills to enhance their educational needs both creatively and exceptionally.
