Director Biography - Caitlyn Phu<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/61fa78c4c928f58c3bcfc80c870c5a5f.jpg" width="117">Caitlyn Phu is an LA-based Asian American director and screenwriter who currently attends Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts studying Television Writing and Production. She first realized her passion for directing when she was accepted into the Academy of the Performing Arts’ Film/Live TV program the summer before high school freshman year. Since then, she has directed, written, and edited a number of award-winning short films, music videos, and editorials. In 2019, she was named the ‘Orange County Artist of the Year’ and a ‘Film Independent Future Filmmaker’. Her most recent short film, Durian, has been showcased in a variety of film festivals, from the Culture and Diversity Film Fest to the Film Independent Future Filmmaker showcase. Additionally, her work has been featured in a number of publications, including the OC Register, The Los Angeles Times, the Film Independent blog, and more.

Currently, she co-directs a USC-Warner Bros. fictional feature PHANTOM that is looking to be in production Summer 2020. She is developing her first feature NANZHOU BROTHERS, which she also wrote.Xinyi is currently based in LA as she pursues her MFA in Film Production at USC as a Jon M. Chu APAA Cinematic Arts Scholar. She holds a B.A. degree in Psychology from UCLA.

She has published extensively in books and journals including Countervisions: Asian American Film Criticism; Asian Cinema, and Amerasia Journal, among many others. ﻿Director Biography - King Yaw Soon<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/97bcecc605d5909ca424851371332a14.jpg" width="210" style="max-width: 100%;">Award-winning filmmaker and graphic designer, King Yaw Soon was born in Tawau, Malaysia. His creative journey began in 2011 when he won the Malaysia Top 10 Young Artists Awards. After majoring in digital animation for three years, he decided to pursue film in the United States of America. Graduated summa cum laude from San Francisco State University with a BA in Cinema in 2018, King has produced works that arerecognized at both national and international levels.

As a woman, of mixed Asian descent dealing with multiple health conditions, both physical and mental I have always struggled with my identity and self-worth.Growing up with little emotional support, I found my passion in helping others.&nbsp;&nbsp;I began to use my negative experiences in a positive way, to help impact change in healthcare.&nbsp;I was establishing amazing connections and was finally feeling like I mattered.&nbsp;I had begun traveling and sharing my perspective with people who actually could make a difference, and then Covid hit. As someone who traveled, to find real connections, my world shut down and in the midst of everything else falling apart,&nbsp;I was recommended to self quarantine. I fell into a deep depression which spiraled downward quick. As someone who is distant from my own family with no children or spouse of my own, for the first time, I felt truly alone.It was in the depths of that despair when a stranger from the UK reached out to connect and not for any other reason than to just say he cared. From that friendship, spawned an amazing group, rare disease advocates from all over the world who were willing and open to share their experiences and their perspectives.We formed an amazing bond that we hope can help change the future of healthcare but only time will tell.&nbsp;With as much negativity that has come out of this pandemic, I am grateful for so many things, and as a society we must try to focus on the positives.&nbsp;In my public speaking, I often say that I wish something would happen to everyone to make them realize what really matters in life to help us change my perspectives and ultimately change the world.
