On a night out with friends, Jess briefly opens up about the grief she’s continuing to process in the aftermath of her grandfather’s death. She decides to go home early and while rummaging around in the kitchen for something to eat, startles her grandmother and the two share a sweet moment through food and song, remembering the man they’ve both lost.


Director Biography - Lauren To'omalatai

Lauren To’omalatai is a Sāmoan filmmaker based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Lauren co-founded and programs the Māsima Film Tour and oversees programming of the Utah Pacific Island Film Series, showcasing and supporting Pacific Island filmmakers since 2016 through cost-free community screenings, discussions, and workshops. Lauren is a proud alumni of imagineNATIVE’s Screenwriting: Features Intensive and continues to pursue creative and cultural pursuits rooted in community and collectivity.
