San Jose Is Not For Sale: A Community Project is a community-led documentary series currently in the production process. Our aim is to visually archive the people, places and spaces, as well as, highlight the local BIPOC small business owners, creatives and culture in our city. Entrepreneurship, art and community is the soul of San Jos√© and that can't be bought. This community project will embody resilience, culture, and passion for a city that is rapidly changing. Director Biography -&nbsp;Michael Cabana<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/b2cea64c6b7616b2d6ae65c78fc311a2.jpg" width="235">Michael Cabana is a first time filmmaker from San Jose, CA. His passion for storytelling stems from his show, FIRM Podcast, where he sits with San Jose movers and shakers to share their come-up stories.﻿

Director Biography -&nbsp;Becca Joy Jackson<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/9cf9eac603181efd795d5476c7635b86.jpg" width="237">Becca Jackson is a Japanese American animator and filmmaker from Gaithersburg, Maryland. She began her undergrad work in Los Angeles at Biola University, majoring in cinema media arts. During the pandemic Jackson returned home to Maryland and transferred to Maryland Institute College of Art to earn a BFA with a major in animation and a minor in film and video.Jackson currently works in freelance animation, focusing on 2D digital animation and stop motion. She currently has an animation titled "Love the Phone You've Got" on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. as a part of the exhibit Cellphone: Unseen Connections. Jackson is drawn to creating film and animations based around her family history and Japanese American identity. She believes animation is a powerful tool to tell stories and convey messages important to her and her community.

In a brilliant white void, “Sonder” explores the multifaceted lives of passersby through individual and collective expression.&nbsp;“Sonder” references the sensation of realizing every person you encounter is living a life as complex and vivid as your own. Through abstract swirls of interlocking gestures and fluid athleticism, the dancers explore moments of epiphany and exchange. Directed by RJ Muna, choreographed by Mia J. Chong, and produced by EIGHT/MOVES. "Sonder" is being screened as an official selection for film festivals from coast to coast in the United States and on three continents.

An Asian-American man drives from his home in Chicago to a small lake town in rural Iowa, to confront a bar owner with whom he suspects he shares a traumatic childhood experience. What ensues is a tension-filled night where two men must find the courage to be honest and vulnerable with each other. Director Biography -&nbsp;Matthew Kim<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/8382e304f1a0bd567ee9004958762248.jpg" width="200">Matthew Kim is a writer/director who grew up between Los Angeles and Orange County, and is currently based in Santa Cruz, California. Having recently completed his undergraduate degree in film production at UCSC, his thesis film “Conventional Green” grapples with the portrayal of traditional masculinity in Asian-American spaces.﻿

Director Biography -&nbsp;Zoe Poppenga<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/1486dd26debb78474e021586032465d3.jpg" width="225">Zoe Poppenga is a recent NYU graduate with a BFA in Film and Television Production. Within the industry, she has a strong passion for screenwriting, story development, and visual development, with freelance experience also in graphic design, photography, makeup special effects, and digital coloring. Her favored genres to work in are fantasy, horror, and comedy, and she loves the medium of animation for its unique exploration of the human experience.﻿

Featuring both VHS and high-resolution footage, the film acts as an intimate family portrait and explores themes of remembrance and connection, considering the ways we carry the memories of those who have come before us and maintain strong bonds with our loved ones. Director Biography -&nbsp;Bryson Nihipali<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/42344522e442b399af9fb1f892f106e7.jpg" width="193">Bryson Nihipali is a visual artist born and raised in Los Angeles with a passion for both photography and filmmaking. With ancestral ties to the Hawaiian and Philippine Islands, he draws much inspiration for his photographic work from his family and their rich cultural heritage. He is a current undergraduate studying Communication and Cinematic Arts at USC. As an aspiring filmmaker, he aims to focus on the indigenous diaspora and share his unique perspective with wider audiences. Embracing his diverse background and experiences, Bryson's artistry reflects a deep connection to his roots and a drive to create impactful visual stories.﻿
