Director Biography -&nbsp;Holly M. Kaplan<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/35317e1a4160a199c182062312bb082d.jpg" width="231">Holly M. Kaplan is a Chinese-American filmmaker born and raised in New York City. In 2022, Holly was chosen for NALIP &amp; NETFLIX's "Latino Lens: Narrative Short Film Incubator for Women of Color" to fund her first solo-directing project, SUNFLOWER GIRL. Inspired and driven by ties to her mixed Cantonese heritage, Holly is invested in bringing narratives about diversity and the Asian diaspora to the forefront. She received her BA in Film &amp; Media Arts at American University and completed a filmmaking program at FAMU International Prague. Holly has served as an apprentice to the late Independent Director/Producer Ben Barenholtz and assisted Executive Producer/Director Lisa Soper, and Director Alex Pillai on Season 1 of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: ORIGINAL SIN (HBO/Max).﻿

Sunflower Girl

After graduating from college, a second-gen Chinese-American revisits the places that defined each era of his life: early adolescence in the suburbs, fresh independence in a big city, and his ancestral hometown in China. Using the method of “method of loci,” or “memory palace technique,”&nbsp; he captures the conflicting emotions and memories conjured by familiar spaces in each location, examined against the backdrop of his family lore. He then releases them through a loosely narrated experimental documentary: Memory Palace. Director Biography -&nbsp;Steven Gong<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/e5dd1cf2b0bed8741fc192a46e1df825.jpg" width="265">Steven is an independent filmmaker from South FL/ Southern CA and based in San Francisco. His learn-by-doing approach to filmmaking has culminated in dozens of short projects and millions of views across platforms.Steven completed his BA at the University of Southern California.

Memory Palace

15-year-old Chinese girl Lan undergoes a spinal surgery that traumatizes her physically and emotionally in the US. Being in a foreign country, the conflict between Lan and her mother, Wenli, intensifies during her rehabilitation. By chance, she meets Olivia, a Chinese-American girl adopted by an American couple, and the two girls quickly become close friends. Olivia invites Lan to go swimming and encourages her to do what she wants to do. Lan skips her physical therapy session without telling Wenli and enters the water for the first time after her surgery. While enjoying the thrill of rebellion, her relationship with Olivia has a subtle change.Soon, Wenli discovers Lan's secret. She decides to end Lan‚Äôs physical therapy early and bring her back to China before the summer ends. Director Biography -&nbsp;Ge GAO<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/d7b19ab6bde67f227406b2a9cd0f6fd8.jpg" width="237">Graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor's Degree in Film Production, and from New York University with a Graduate Degree in Arts Administration, Ge Gao is currently a producer at Beijing Ultra Comedy Culture Communication Co. Her produced short film "One Afternoon" was shortlisted for the Student Academy Award and has won multiple awards at over 10 international film festivals. She is also the executive producer of "White Dew", a musical short film co-produced by several colleges in the Boston area, and has made several award-winning short films.﻿

Dive Into the Blue

A curious and daring teenage girl embarks on a journey of self-exploration of her sexuality, only to find her mother has a different set of expectations for her. She cleverly uses her algebra homework answers as a means to attract her love interests, but her plans are foiled by her meddling older brother, who barges in with his own hidden agenda, throwing her carefully crafted scheme off balance. Director Biography -&nbsp;Wenhwa Ts'ao<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/f5064fe55d035b071417b042475dd196.jpg" width="233">Born and raised in Taiwan, Wenhwa Tsao is a prolific and award-winning filmmaker. Her films have received funding from numerous renowned granting organizations, including the Kodak Faculty Scholar Award, the Individual Artist Support Initiative Artists Fellowship, the Illinois Arts Council Artist Fellowship, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Media Artist Fellowship, and the Appalshop Southeast Media Program Fellowship.She has received project grants from the City of Chicago Community Arts Program, the Columbia College Faculty Development Grant, and Ilford Imaging INC. In 2011 American Film Institute recognized her achievement and selected Wenhwa for the prestigious American Film Institute Directing Workshop for Women. Since the mid-90s, Wenhwa's films have been showcased in numerous prestigious film festivals worldwide, including Palm Springs International ShortFest, Montreal World Film Festival, San Francisco Asian American Film Festival, Creteil Festival International de Film de Femmes, Vancouver International Film Festival, MadCat Women’s International Film Festival, Mill Valley International Film Festival, Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, Victoria Independent Film Festival, the Chicago Film Festival, as well as festivals and showcases in China, Romania, Mexico, Ecuador, Korea, Iran, Italy, Africa, Australia, Bermuda, and the Netherlands Wenhwa's work focuses on themes related to the Chinese American experience, particularly the experiences of immigrants. She creates stories that are personal and meaningful to her. An energetic and passionate storyteller using film as her media of choice, Wenhwa is driven to tell stories of simple people living extradentary lives. She is dedicated to tackling important social issues through her film projects. Her latest works focus on the experiences of the Asian community, including the impact of racism and the challenges faced by undocumented immigrants.Tsao is recognized for her achievements in film and education, having received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Tainan University of Technology and the Excellence in Teaching Award from Columbia College Chicago and the University Film &amp; Video Association. As a tenured professor at Columbia College Chicago, she has held key leadership roles, including Associate Chair and Director of Graduate Studies. In addition, she is currently serving as the President of the University Film &amp; Video Association, which supports media professionals and educators.
