Hand-drawn on sheets of toilet paper, this is a short film about the longing to embrace the people we love in the isolated world.
Rahyne
This short film delves into Indigenous and African/Caribbean folktales surrounding water that conceives it as a spirit, a guardian, a lifeforce, and holder of memories and history, among many other things. Viewers will join Rahyne as they visit the Toronto waterfront guided by the desire to quell the turmoil of the last few months, in search of a teacher to inform a new way to approach the world they find themselves in. The ultimate goal is to inspire conversations on collective ways of healing and what that looks like using the water as a creative instructional tool.
Halima's Vote
When a tragedy befalls Halima's village, Halima will have to say 'No' to the government vote-buying schemes and stand up for the rights of her people. Halima's Vote is a short animated film from Nigeria. It's about vote-buying, women's empowerment, and holding leaders to account.
My Clouded Mind
Naura can’t sleep. It is through the eyes of her doll Melati, that we discover Naura’s journey through her trauma and her road towards recovery, and eventual self acceptance. ‘My Clouded Mind’ follows a victim of online gender-based violence (OBGV), Naura lives amongst terror, clouded by past conversations and time spent with her ex-boyfriend and also perpetuator of the crime. This short film is part of EngageMedia's "Tech Tales: Films about Digital Rights in the Asia-Pacific".
Pivot
Finding herself in an impossible situation, Ashley must decide whether to wear a gaudy dress she hates or find the courage to stand up for herself and fight the inner monster that is holding her back. The animated short film ‘Pivot’ is a defining moment in Ashley’s quest to be herself at the risk of disappointing the person she loves the most, her Mom.
