Produced by award-winning actor Mark Ruffalo (Dark Waters, The Avengers), Invisible Hand takes us behind the curtain of the global economy where ‘Rights of Nature’ becomes “capitalism’s one true opponent.”

In the fall of 2014, for the first time in United States history, an ecosystem filed to defend itself in a lawsuit claiming its ‘right to exist' in Grant Township, Pennsylvania.

For attempting such a radical act, Grant’s rural community of 700 people were sued by a corporation, then by the state government, and are now locked in a battle to defend the watershed they call home.

The water they drink and the Rights to Nature laws they've passed are all on the line.

Following this story, and the stories of the Lake Erie Bill of Rights that granted personhood to international waters, and the activists of Standing Rock and Seneca Nation Indians fighting to prevent radioactive fracking waste from entering their waters, The Invisible Hand sheds light on one of the newest and most powerful tools nature has to defend itself.

AWARDS

2020 Accolade Global Competition Award of Excellence, 2020 Hollywood Verge Best Documentary Film, 2020 Spotlight Best Documentary Award

Audiences have said Invisible Hand is a “game changing” story about Rights of Nature and global battle between capitalism and democracy. Last Born in the Wilderness host Patrick Farnsworth has called the film “really, really beautiful” and “incredibly moving.”

“We are honored to receive these awards for documenting the Rights of Nature story,” said Pribanic. “This is a turning point in the story of our culture, where the Indigenous legacy that once protected this land can resurface to take on capitalism and defend Nature’s rights.”

“What this documentary is offering is a way forward. You hear time and time again that a corporation has the rights of a person. The idea that Nature has no rights whatsoever is absurd,” exclaimed Ruffalo.
