Ahmet Onur Yildiz was born in Mardin, Turkey in 19th of April 1987. Started his career as scriptwriter and director at the age of 23 with “Roots” short movie, when he was studying onhis thesis named “the Competitiveness of Turkish Film Industry” to complete Master Degree Program in Boğaziçi University, Istanbul. He directed three short movies before starting hisfeature movie called “When Snow in Nowhere” in 2016 Winter. But the shooting suspended due to funding problems. After that he decided to be a pilot to finance his movies to beindependent in his projects, and applied to DLR (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt) Exam and got acceptance from Turkish Airlines. Now he works as Boeing 737 Pilot in Turkish Airlines for 3 years and thanks to Covid19 Pandemics that canceled all flights for three months, he got chance to shoot new short movie with the personal budget,“When the Dance Creates the Music”. And also, he continues his academic career in Istanbul Technical University PhD Program in Social Sciences.

About the directorAugustė was born and raised in Lithuania. As a child and teen, she was always drawn to and experimented with painting, gymnastics, ballroom dancing, acting, photography till shefinally found her place in film production. Having just graduated from Arts University Bournemouth, specializing in Documentary and Production Design, Augustė aims to grow as a filmmaker as well as explore her passions through teaching and education.

A short documentary about the life and true story of Laila Abdulaziz, a pioneer of music in the Arabian Gulf and staple of Kuwaiti history who had a vision for the future that no one was ready for, not even herself. About Haya Alghanim is a Kuwaiti director and producer based in New York City. Haya also has an art practice in experimental film, new media and projection. Through her artistic and professional practice, Haya aims to preserve and represent modern Arab art and culture. Haya recently received her MFA in Film from Columbia University’s School of the Arts. In Arabic with English subtitles.

An evening with Laila

“MURMURING” was born from the impacts of COVID on the performing arts industry and particularly, the desire to nurture the mental health, spirit and connection of dancers and audiences alike, who were struggling through the prolonged 2020 COVID lockdown in Victoria, Australia. The film Murmuring includes artists from The Australian Ballet (TAB) plus the 2020 Graduating year of The Australian Ballet School (ABS) (normally the graduate year level performs at State and National venues and accompanies The Australian Ballet on a regional tour). The Australian Ballet had not performed since March 2020, and whilst all dancers had undertaken some form of remote classes from their living rooms, the extensive COVID lockdown resulted in isolation and lack of connection as all performance opportunities and collaborations disappeared in the wake of back-to-back lockdowns. Amidst a sense of despondency, the collaborative Project Starling evolved. It aimed to work within the COVID restrictions with the mission that artists, volunteers and audience members would feel a sense of achievement and connection, despite the year which challenged those very things. Project Starling was a plan to work towards producing a film of a large group choreographed piece in a public location which would involve artists and students mentoring, learning and rehearsing remotely until they could meet in person. The inspiration for the piece is the murmuration of starlings – a formidable sight to behold. The aerial formations change in an instant, creating a fluid mesmerizing dance in the sky. But it is more than just movement. Murmuration is an innate collective behavior essentially protecting the vulnerable individuals in the community, from danger. Whilst humans have lost this innate behavior, the pandemic has forced us to collectively behave a certain way to protect our vulnerable. Starling murmuration is about sustaining the flock. Project Starling and the piece “Murmuring” is about sustaining a sense of purpose, motivation and connection in a disheartening situation and realizing a positive outcome. The project is a result of the support and goodwill of many - and the film pays testament to the admirable qualities of humanity and our solace in the arts.
