Although he encounters post-war prejudice from thousands of fans, he receives unexpected support from Rabbi Alexander Altman, who himself had fled the Nazis. Master Sergeant Roddie Edmonds, a devout Tennessee pastor, in an act of extraordinary courage and at great risk to himself, saved​ the lives of 200 Jewish GIs imprisoned by the Nazis. After the war he never spoke about his incredible act of bravery.&nbsp;​
