Bizarre Soviet irrigation experiments in Southern Ukraine created a slow eco-disaster that continues today. Sasyk Estuary, by the Black Sea, is ground zero for a battle between eco-activists vs. poachers, bureaucrats, and corrupt officials.

What we love: I recommend watching Return Sasyk to the Sea. I liked that it was a documentary and that it told the story of an environmental issue in another country. It was very interesting to learn of the domino effect the USSR caused on this sea-haven and inspiring to learn about all the people coming together to help it. The fact that it was about conservation was just another plus! (Student reviewer Ryan Moralevitz, 15)

This film will play with the short film, GENDERED PEACE: THE LEGACY OF THE TOKYO WOMEN'S TRIBUNAL.
