Now 91, Ellen was a Finnish immigrant to Canada, an American citizen and student at UCLA, and is finally an ornithologist in Iran. A story about nature, humanity, and the role of women in both the West and Iranian culture.

From our NewGate School Global Campus Youth Jury:

Life. Some get it easy. Some don’t. In this heartbreaking and inspiring story, we follow the journey of a woman who survived what no one should even have to experience. The sorrow, the grief, and the hope all create this story, a one of a kind.

- Timmy, 9th Grade, NewGate Global School Youth Jury member

WHAT WE LOVE:

We go on a fascinating journey with the Mother of Snow Cranes as she recalls her life over the last 90 years. Through it all we see humor, wisdom, and history told with elegance and heart.
