After the tragic death of her father in a horse-riding accident, Tuyaa, a modern, Mongolian woman, moves to her grandfather’s yurt on the prairie to ease her depression. Upon her arrival, she is sad to learn that her grandfather sold her father’s horse. The horse escapes the new owner, and Tuyaa finds and cares for it, deepening her connection to the horse against her grandfather’s wishes. Tuyaa fights her grandfather, begging him to keep the horse and honor her father’s memory, chafing against his attempt to protect her from her father’s fate.
