Synopsis

A boy prepares for the arrival of a girl. Nervous, he tries his best to bring her inside without dying in awkwardness, but he accidentally locks them both out of the apartment for a long, long minute. However, this boy is brave!, and he does not surrender. He brings her from the blue outside into the warm, artsy bedroom where they’ll play guitar together. What song, you ask? You already know.

Director's Statement

My previous film was a wordy, formally rigid, almost-intellectual exercise, and I felt disappointed in it as a visual product. So I was feeling a little embarrassed as a director and thought I would make something that was nothing special on the page but that could still deliver a satisfying experience for an audience. It just so happened that at that time I was obsessed with a Sound and Vision acoustic cover by Inés Adam and Santiago Blanco: not exactly because of the guitar-playing itself—though that was incredibly captivating—but rather because of the energy flowing between them, communicated through body language and eye contact. I decided I was going to write two people into that situation. Unfortunately that part of the actual song part of the film was cut due to copyright issues……… but what remained—what remained!—is still pretty good: his mission to securely bring the girl inside and not embarrass himself to death. We were careful to create a duality in tone here, with everything outside the room feeling cold and anxietyinducing, whereas everything inside the room feels warm and cozy and sweet. And then there’s still something for the film nerds out there: the French New Wave scene recreations—the Jules and Jim sequence should be pretty close to the original.
