As a child, Tel Aviv-based British filmmaker Bobby Lax experienced his father Edgar as a distant, even terrifying, figure. Shortly after his death, Bobby returns to his family home in London to learn more about his dad’s hidden past, which may explain their strained relationship. Meeting there with his oldest and closest friend, German-born Manuel, Bobby is surprised to learn that he, too, has kept a secret: Manuel’s great-uncle was Veit Harlan, the famous film director whose notorious propaganda film Jud Süss, produced at the behest of Joseph Goebbels, played a fundamental role in Nazi persecution of the Jews.

Together they embark on a journey to find the missing pieces of their respective family stories –a task that forces them to look a new at their lifelong bond, this time not only as two British childhood friends but also as a German and a Jew. An incredibly moving debut film
