Born in Tiberias in 1936, Ilana Goor rose from humble beginnings to become an iconic figure in the art world. Lacking formal education, it was Goor’s eclectic and bold taste and razor-sharp business acumen that made her, in financial terms at least, an extremely successful multidisciplinary artist, and her Jaffa house-cum-museum a pilgrimage destination for art lovers. Derided at first by the Israeli art establishment, Goor, who started her career designing belts for Bloomingdale’s, is a force to be reckoned with. Here she talks candidly about her career, money, family and processing trauma.
