Told through the journeys of two expecting mothers seeking safety in Colombia, Irse is a window into the Venezuelan exodus and its impact on families.


Biography:


Marian Carrasquero is a Venezuelan documentary photographer, filmmaker, and journalist. She received her BFA in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2016 and her master’s degree in Documentary Filmmaking from UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism in 2019. Her work has been featured by NPR, Al Jazeera, and HuffPost, and she is a frequent contributor to The New York Times. She has reported internationally in India, Colombia, Guatemala, and Mexico. She believes that the most powerful work is made at the intersection of art and journalism, and is especially drawn to documenting stories relating to immigration, health, gender, and race.


Jean-Philippe Dobrin is a documentary filmmaker and photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. For over a decade, he has specialized in human interest stories for non-profit, advertising, and editorial outlets. His work has been published by The New York TimesTime magazine, KQED and the International Rescue Committee. He has worked in India, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, South East Asia, South America, and around the United States to capture visuals of everyday life.
