Teddy and his puppet, Tater, perform a weekly show at Smirk’s Playhouse, owned by his friend/mentor Ray Smirk. When an elegant woman is in the audience one night, she catches Tater’s eye and leads Tater to question his gender. Ray offers the two of them a gig opening for a big act so long as they can “prove it.” As Tater’s exploration of gender comes to light, Teddy must choose whether to support Tater or risk losing their chance at success
